Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in a single-vehicle crash at a three-way intersection in Cornville Sunday night that killed a Madison man, police said.

Stanley Johnson, 54, was traveling west on Shadagee Road around 9 p.m. when he hit a guard rail, lost control and veered off the road near the intersection with Molunkus Road and Rowell Mountain Road, according to a press release Monday from Chief Deputy James Ross of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnson’s vehicle, a 2002 green Chevrolet pickup truck, tumbled down into a deep ditch, traveling about 75 feet and rolling over several times before stopping on the side of Rowell Mountain Road, Ross said.

Johnson was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash was reported by a passing motorist.

Deputy Joe Jackson is the lead investigator of the case, which is still being investigated.

The Cornville Fire Department, Madison Fire Department and Anson Madison Ambulance Service responded to the crash.
