AUGUSTA — A jury cleared a 47-year-old Sidney man of an assault charge Thursday night after deliberating for more than three hours.
Stephen Choate had been charged with assault in connection with an incident that occurred July 7, 2015, in Chelsea.
Choate’s attorney, Darrick Banda, said Choate testified in his own defense during the one-day trial at the Capital Judicial Center, which resulted in Choate being found not guilty.
The prosecutors were Emily Collins, a student intern with the Kennebec County District Attorney’s Office, and Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Russell.
