A Freeman Township man is charged with sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 18 in Chesterville.
Timothy Russo, 19, was arrested Wednesday by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on a felony charge of gross sexual assault, class A, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols.
The sheriff’s office received a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services about a complaint of gross sexual assault against Russo made by a girl under the age of 18.
Detective Kenneth Charles conducted an investigation and arrested Russo on Wednesday. Charles is continuing to handle the case, Nichols said.
Russo was released Wednesday from the Franklin County Jail in Farmington on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in court June 28.
A conviction on the charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
