WATERVILLE — State and Waterville police are at the scene of a standoff on Front Street in Waterville where a neighbor reported he was evacuated from his house around 2:25 pm after police told him someone was in an apartment with a handgun.
At 3:28 p.m., police ordered a man out of the house and told him to get down on the ground. They placed him in a police cruiser and left.
They then went to the house, and a police officer came out carrying a baby.
At 3:43 p.m. state police tactical team members went into the building.
Neighbors said the baby boy was born Jan. 1.
No additional information was immediately available.
